Censorship in the schools

"What we need to do is teach good science and present both models and let students decide what model makes most sense. To do anything else is censorship," says Bill Jack, who takes children on "biblically correct" science musem tours to teach them creationist alternatives to the museum's science exhibits.

You know, he may be right. Children are perfectly capable of deciding for themselves in school. We can even expand this to other subjects. We'll tell kids 2+2=4 and 2+2=4,329,909. We'll tell them the capital of Tennessee is Nashville and/or Chattanooga. As long as that elitist, East Coast, liberal propaganda show Sesame Street doesn't get in the way, young and easily-impressionable kids can decide for themselves what they want to learn.

Excellent post.

The blog, Orcinus, had a similar point a few weeks back about 2+2=4. To paraphrase, in my own words, right wing Republicans in the last five years have tended to get carried away with saying things equivalent to 2+2=6. There has been a tendency that when Democrats speak up and point out that actually 2+2=4, the media has a tendency to say that probably 2+2=5. Republicans take advantage of that tendency. And yet, I think children are still capable of getting what's going on, if given the chance.

Kids can learn about creationism on SUNDAY. Monday through Friday should be reserved for beliefs that make sense.
