Not as catchy as 867-5309

From the Boston Phoenix:

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Brooklyn indie agit-popsters Kids Against Combs, who’d just finished an album that used the private phone number of Fox News loudmouth Sean Hannity as its title. (See "Combs Nail Hannity," This Just In, July 15.)

Sean Hannity (631) 673-8003 was set to be released on July 21 by 10-34 Records. But, according to a press release sent out last week by the band, Kids Against Combs and 10-34 were issued papers on July 15 from Hannity’s attorneys, "threatening to sue both parties if they proceeded with releasing an album named after Hannity’s home phone number and containing the political pundit’s home address in the CD’s liner notes." (The digits, meanwhile, are now disconnected; "changed to an unlisted number," says the recording.)

The band also alleges that spies from the Hannity camp — or at least some people who "looked extremely conservative Republican" and "not the type of folk that would be at any sort of live performance, except for maybe Paul Anka or Wayne Newton" — arrived to scope out a KAC performance the next day. Luckily, the band had freshly printed copies of the album for sale, sans home address and retitled The Album Formerly Known As Sean Hannity’s Phone Number ... Currently Sean Hannity Is a Democracy Subverting Douche Bag.

Despite the fact that 66 percent of our Style and Usage Panel prefer that "douchebag" be written as a compound word, they’re in unanimous agreement that the new title works just as well.

Love it - liberals, as usual, using intelligent dialog to discuss the issues at hand. (note my extreme sarcasm)
Let's see - they've got about 11 minutes left...

Posted by Francis | August 10, 2005 10:11 PM

Too bad they didn't include Al Franken's number and address too! Still, that's a cheap publicity stunt, guaranteed to backfire.

I often thought an appropriate torture for those two would consist of locking them in a cell together. At least that way, they couldn't inflict their stupid opinions on anyone else....

Posted by Vince Daliessio | August 10, 2005 10:17 PM

Wait, are they for or against Combs? because last I checked, Hannity and Combs debate every evening when I get home?

Ba-Doom-Psh!

p.s., If Hannity & COLMES are both Democracy Subverting Douchebags.

Posted by OctEgon | August 10, 2005 10:19 PM

Yo Francis, conservatives wouldn't recognize intelligent dialog if it leapt down their lying throats.

/it's called projection, look it up sometime.

Posted by Assisi | August 10, 2005 10:19 PM

I'd be willing to bet that this band doesn't support the Patriot Act, but they sure don't seem to mind publicizing someone's personal info.

Sandmonkeys, I think you mean dialogue.

Posted by liberal | August 10, 2005 10:34 PM

AZHeelFan-
I can support this album title and rail against the Patriot Act. Wanna watch? It's easy, and you can do it too.

Like it or not, many things you do are a matter of public record. Your home address, your phone number, and yes, even that super secret social security number are publicly available if you know where to look. They always have been, they always will be. Knowing that, we can accept that, and insulate ourselves against the possible misuse of that information.

With something like the Patriot Act, what has been done is that the Government's ability to gather information, some of which is not already a matter of public record, has been expanded, with a _decrease_ in judicial oversight of this power.

More power to the people? Good. More power to the government? Bad.

Generally, on any political issue, I always ask myself- what would a _real_ conservative do? Pity there aren't any left in the public discourse.

Haha, side-taking turns everyone into a dick.

"CONSERVATIVES THIS"
"LIBERALS THAT"

Absolutists are cunts.

Left, right, you're all wrong. The politics of waste and war will lead you down the path to destruction.

Posted by outside | August 10, 2005 10:59 PM

Let's see now...Kids Against Combs publicizes personal information about Sean Hannity...the only possible reason for this is to incite harrassment against Hannity... And then they have the nerve to call Hannity a "democracy subverting douchebag?"
Man, if THAT ain't the pot calling the kettle black...

Posted by TamaNeko | August 10, 2005 11:01 PM

they changed their title because of a threat of legal action? a real rock star would've held out until legal action was actually taken. would've gotten a lot more attention for the band's crappy music.

Posted by Jeff | August 10, 2005 11:14 PM

Obviously they have no talent, therefore, a gimmick.

I'm as flaming a liberal as you'll come across, and I find that just sad.

You may disagree with Hannity, but if you're intentionally setting the man up for harassment at his own private residence - then the Kids Against Combs are the only douches here.

Asshats.

Posted by Just a guy | August 10, 2005 11:35 PM

um. if the name of the band is kids AGAINST combs, wouldn't it stand to reason that they would lean towards mr. hannity? but then to publish his personal info... it sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. and there are plenty of conservatives who can hold a disscussion. we just choose not to whine and prefer action instead. i should know i live in AZ. a hotbead of all talk and no action.

Posted by lisalisa | August 10, 2005 11:40 PM

[The title of Sean Hannity's tour] is still a better title.

In other news, Ablogistan is a first amendment subverting douche bag for not letting you write the title of Hannity's tour.

t3knomanser:

By your arguements it seems to me that you are trying to deny the hypocracy in this. But it is undeniable.

What this "band" is trying to do is encourage a personal attack on someone who is exercising their freedom of speach, the content of which they dislike. The info they use is not the content of Hannity's rantings, but rather his PERSONAL INFO. This is a personal attack, not political activism.

This directly contradicts the claims for "Open Discussion", "Truth", "Tolerance" and "Taking the High Moral Road" that many so-called "activists" smugly tout. And it also contributes to the problems of the world, rendering them no better than their "enemies". (hence "outside"'s apathetic comment.)

Sean Hannity isn't a conservative ...... he's a flaming faggot.

/me says "see, i can be funny too."

I mean, really people, Hannity is a dick. Looks like just desserts to me.

Posted by Hannity | August 11, 2005 12:26 AM

To So Mature, phone numbers and addresses are not personal if they are listed. Also, what this most likely terrible band is doing is also protected under freedom of speech. Furthermore, since the phone number and address are a matter of public record, Hannity had no right to threaten legal action.

Posted by David | August 11, 2005 1:00 AM

payback is a bitch

Posted by tel | August 11, 2005 1:23 AM

No...but you can bet someone as popular a character as Hannity has all sorts of trademarks owned by some major company.

Kids Against Combs might be eating ramen for the rest of their lives paying off the lawsuit.

Posted by Steve | August 11, 2005 1:33 AM

WTF? All this talk about KAC attacking Hannity personally. Hannity personally attacks people every weekday.

Posted by OctEgon | August 11, 2005 1:59 AM

The band isn't against Colmes. They are against Combs. Just because Hannity's name apears on an album does not merit the connection between the assholes personal bitch and the hair styling apparatus afore mentioned in the bands name.

And personally, i believe that Hannity deserves whatever personal distress anyone can bring him. And possibly more than that.

Posted by -M- | August 11, 2005 2:27 AM

Oooh. A bunch of wannabe celebrities try to poke somebody with a stick. Geez. Get famous by doing what you do. If the band was any good, they'd become famous on their own. Just looking for publicity.

Hannity's okay in my book. He only seems to expose the lies. Naturally, that would make the liars upset. The 8-year gravy train Willie had is gone, and a buttload of people want it back. Apparently, badly.

Posted by ifoundadumbass | August 11, 2005 3:47 AM

Who cares about the legality or the politics of it. It was done in poor taste. I can't think of a worse way to show how lowly of an individual you are. You can't go around screwing over everyone who disagrees with you. Im not a republican or a democrat(Im a libertarian), but this is just another example of democrats being cry-babies about everything.

Posted by Kromm | August 11, 2005 3:48 AM

Well a real style council would tear you all a new asshole for preferring "democracy subverting" to "democracy-subverting", but then again, you are all a bunch of troglodytes. As one poster put it, "extremists are cunts". This place is cunt-alicious.

Now here's some really funny shit:

"Who cares about the legality or the politics of it. It was done in poor taste. I can't think of a worse way to show how lowly of an individual you are. You can't go around screwing over everyone who disagrees with you. Uh, right. You fucking crybaby. The current Republicans in power are about nothing - NOTHING - I SAID NOTHING - except screwing, fucking, ass-raping, and destroying everyone who dares to disagree with their narrow prehistoric (and pre-Christian) creed. So this is about Dems being crybabies exactly how? Sounds more like cocksucker-cum-journalist for the RNC can't take what he can give. What a fucking faggot.

Posted by dbag | August 11, 2005 6:14 AM

Here is a though: No one ever thinks a law (i.e patriot) is a bad idea until it personally affects them. The fact that the government now has a mandated right to collect and use information far more personal than a phone number and address at their "discression" is a perfect example. It would be nice to think that the government will only use this information to protect us, but after all, the government is made of men with their own agendas (like KAC). KAC is obviously using this information in poor taste, but it is far less destructive than what could be done. I would expect Mr. Hannity to understand, now more than anyone, the importance of privacy.

Posted by panic | August 11, 2005 6:59 AM

Wow, a lot of Bush-fellating suckers like dbag (appropriately named after his idol, douchebag) are upset.
Poor wittle Hannity !
Fuck the little Ho and the flea-ridden mule he rode on in.

Posted by ch2 | August 11, 2005 7:51 AM

After viewing the above posts, it just shows how bitter the democracts and anti-Bush crowd are now, not to be in power.

It also shows what kind of a person you are, and the character of your party, from how you project yourself to other people.

What was that quote? "The way a follower acts, only shows the examples set by their leaders."

Represent the Democrats! Keep it up!

Posted by Republican | August 11, 2005 1:23 PM

"Profanity is the effort of a feeble mind to express itself forcefully". How does the language used in the posts above give America anything but a black eye. If you don't like our government now.....hit the voting booth next time. No more moaning and groaning.

Certainly you cannot condemn a party for the action of a few foul mouthed individuals. I mean its not like we would consider a whole party racist just because 20% of republican senators would not endorse the lynching appology back in june? Of course not....

You can threaten anything you want. Free speech, right? Except for righties, correct? As for the number, I am sure it wasn't listed (and therefore NOT a matter of public record). What are you.... DENSE? I have an unlisted phone number. If someone were to post it publicly - say, on a billboard, that could be considered harassement. DUH! Are you that dumb you can't see that?

Lefties.... free speech only for them, I guess.

Posted by Shaner | August 11, 2005 4:07 PM

tommyt:

Sure... and just like I don't consider all democrats racist, even though a MAJORITY of them voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It was only because a MAJORITY of Reps. voted for that it was passed. My how we forget that fact.

Posted by shaner | August 11, 2005 4:08 PM

For all that agree with the band placing Hannity's phone number and address on their album cover and liner notes, why don't you put the same info here on your comments?

I happen to think that when a radio personality/politician/anchorman is at home, off of work they are to be left alone. No matter their politcal leanings.

Posted by Anon | August 11, 2005 6:14 PM

Heh. Funny, Elyas. I don't see YOUR home phone number and address listed here on this blog. Would you like me to include it for you in these comments? Then, perhaps, after you delete it, shall I post it on conservative blogs to see if they have a problem circulating it? Albeit, they aren't that hard to look up, but who knows what kind of zany fun would ensue!

Come on, don't be a democracy subverting douchebag!

Posted by Address Man | August 11, 2005 6:25 PM

It is a shame that people have to show their intelligence (or lack thereof) by resorting to name calling and profanity.

Posted by conservative | August 11, 2005 7:36 PM

"Love it - liberals, as usual, using intelligent dialog to discuss the issues at hand. (note my extreme sarcasm)"

Noting your extreme lack of bias. (notice my extreme sarcasm?)

Yep. It's only liberals acting like assholes. Not FreeRepublic, not Bob Novak. Move on, nothing to see here. Finish your kool-aid, the space ship is almost here!

"Too bad they didn't include Al Franken's number and address too!"

Agreed. There's not enough hate directed at Al Franken already. And heaven forbid, way too much directed at Hannity. Never mind that he makes a living directing his hatred at other people every day... What did Franken do? Bore someone to death?

"Wait, are they for or against Combs? because last I checked, Hannity and Combs debate every evening when I get home?"

Yeah, except you'd have to have the IQ of a rhino to consider it a debate. But then, we already know how low your IQ is if you're watching FOX NEWS for actual news and discussion. Obviously, either they think Colmes is a pussy planted to make Hannity look like the clear winner every single time (and that conclusion is warranted, especially considering the obvious bias of the FNC), or perhaps they just hate combs and have punk hairdos that would be oppressed by said combs. Think outside the box, dude.

"Yo Assissi, liberals wouldn't recognize intelligent dialog if it leapt down their lying throats."

Wow. We are impressed by your lack of effort. Also your lack of intelligence.

"Absolutists are cunts."

AMEN BROTHA! Finally, a kindred post.

"And then they have the nerve to call Hannity a "democracy subverting douchebag?""

You suggest they shouldn't have the right to name their album what they want. I'm sure Hannity agrees. Thus, it's not really about a negro pot passing judgement on a kettle.

"You may disagree with Hannity, but if you're intentionally setting the man up for harassment at his own private residence - then the Kids Against Combs are the only douches here."

Hannity says some things that go almost as far toward inciting hate and harassment. I agree that these guys are assholes for doing what they did. But remember, this behavior is far more widespread and accepted on the right. See FreeRepublic.

"What this "band" is trying to do is encourage a personal attack on someone who is exercising their freedom of speach, the content of which they dislike."

They did this by excersizing their own freedom of speech. What's the matter, don't like the content?? You shouldn't talk about hypocrisy and then engage in it with the very next sentence. It makes you appear much stupider than you really are (I'm sure!). Also, the entire structure of the right is built for personal attacks. You forgot about the Swift Boat Vet liars already? This is how the right OPERATES EVERY DAY. But when some douche on the left does it, suddenly it's BAD BAD BAD.

"And personally, i believe that Hannity deserves whatever personal distress anyone can bring him. And possibly more than that."

I agree 100%.

"Hannity's okay in my book. He only seems to expose the lies."

Hannity lies. It's proven. FNC is biased. It's proven. You go to a biased network that lies to expose lies. I hope you don't expect people to take you seriously.

"The 8-year gravy train Willie had is gone, and a buttload of people want it back."

Prosperity sucked anyway! hahahahahaha Conservatives make me tinkle.

"Fuck the left!"

Fuck the power first! Fuck the right! Then fuck the left. Then put some sane people into office and clean up this fucking mess.

"If you don't like our government now.....hit the voting booth next time."

Yeah. Because when Republicans pick the Democrat candidate in the primaries, and harass you at the voting booth to prevent you from voting, and then try to keep the ballots from even being counted, you can feel utterly defeated if you didn't vote Republican! That's gonna make everything all better.

Posted by Muddro | August 11, 2005 9:18 PM

I have bought this album and I really feel that this band is one of the most revolutionary out there.

Seriously, their sound is so new sounding and their attitude and approach is fresh. We have not seen a band like this since REM first broke.

The song "Capitalism is Going to Break Your Heart" is the anthem of our current times.

Hannity was the best target they could have chose to start getting attention to themselves, the man represents all that is wrong with our country and the album reflects it all for everyone else to realize.

Hell, they even have something to say about soccer moms.

This album goes way past just the shock value of its title, the music makes it one of my favs of 2005.

Posted by Roger | August 11, 2005 11:12 PM

Hey shaner,

Funny how quickly we forget that right after the civil right act passed passed, every former southern confederate state (the states opposed to the act) except Texas voted for either the republican Nixon or independent Wallace as a protest against the civil rights act. Too bad the republicans who controlled the party back in 1963 are no longer running their own party, I agree we would probably be better off.

Posted by tommyt | August 12, 2005 3:05 AM

I think Hannity is just a souless piece of machinery being used by the banksters (bankers + gangsters = banksters) to mislead and misinform the people too gullible/lazy/stupid to look for the truth about what's really going on and who's really running the show. Republicans VS Democrats is a lie, they are one and the same. It's really Super-wealthy "elites" VS everybody else. Ron Paul for president! Just make sure they have paper backup for any electronic votes, or this election will be stolen just like 04 and 06.
