On the road

As I've mentioned before, there are a few rare occassions when I like to listen to Rush Limbaugh and other talk radio shows. Usually, it is when I am driving across the country and need a rush of adrenaline to stay awake, that I turn to the musings of Rush et al.

Having just completed such a trip, I would like to share a few notable arguments I heard from these talented entertainers:

- One host suggested Mexico give the United States one barrell of oil for every illegal immigrant that crosses the Mexican border. He later dismissed this idea in favor of a full invasion of Mexico. Seriously. He claimed it would solve both our immigration problem, and the dependancy on foreign oil (thus, our problems with the entire Middle East). To back up his argument, he used Native American battles over salt as a historical precedent for natural resource wars.

At first, I thought he had to be joking. But he assured me, he was not. He didn't think it was realistic, but he still felt it was a genuinely good idea.

- Another talk radio host, whose name I didn't catch, made the first guy look completely sane. While discussing the tragic attacks on London, this guy called Tony Blair a "socialist pig," he referred to Bush as "President Smirk" (which isn't a bad name, actually), and accussed the President of trying to send subliminal messages to the American people by wearing a U.N.-colored blue tie.

He later went on to call FDR a "communist traitor" who engineered Pearl Harbor simply to get the U.S. involved in WWII.

Seriously, if you are ever on a long drive by yourself, switch on your AM dial and just stop at the first talk radio show you come to. This stuff is better than coffee.
